Fish.Cloud is growing, and that means bringing new writers into the fold. Today, we debut Scuba Steve, a fine lad and close friend who has decided to grace us with his taste and sensibility....Enjoy!
- Mr. Cloud
Greetings fish cloud universe, Scuba here. Due to extremely inclimate weather conditions, I’ve been trapped all up and in this planet you call Earth. On my initial descent to the surface, I came upon "Neon Bible," the second full-length release from everyone's favorite Canadians, the Arcade Fire. Thanks to the power of intergalactic travel, I’m bringing you a quick post before it drops next week. Unless you've been ignoring music entirely for the past couple years, you’ve been eagerly awaiting this arrival ever since they put out “Funeral” back in 2004. Honestly, the band commands attention. Featuring Texas-born front man Win Butler - a border-line giant who rocks the Hurdy Gurdy - backed by a full Hungarian orchestra, how could they not?
"Neon Bible" is an emotionally vibrant outcry preaching a gospel of anti-commercialism, at times sounding like a huge processional busting out of the doors of a medieval church, instruments in hand, running down the streets of snowy London, while, at others, like the track “Antichrist Television Blues," sounding more like a boogied out rock party with Bruce Springsteen on lead vocals (in a good way, not in that weird New Jersey dive bar way). The closing track, “My Body is a Cage,” has a tragically epic vibe, like something you would hear just before the moment you die. Pretty intense stuff, people. Put simply, this album put me in a really nice place - perhaps almost heavenly? Check your local church for concert info, ha. No seriously...do it.

"Neon Bible" will be available everywhere (seriously, everywhere) on Tuesday, March 6th. Today's illustration is entitled "Haystack Cities Burn," by the ever-loveable Dan Lisowski.
