"Come To Me..."

Last fall, a young English producer by the name of Andy Stott put out an impeccable ten track LP on Manchester's equally impeccable Modern Love label. Entitled "Merciless," the album proved to be one of the best electronic releases of the year by virtue of its sound: melancholic keys and swirling ambience grafted onto an amalgamated frame of clean lined minimal techno and the oh-so-relevant dubstep sound. The album itself is an incredibly concise statement, with Stott having trimmed all of the fat from the tracklisting - leaving nothing but the most premium of cuts. This here track that we're bestowing upon your ear drums is called "Blocked," and showcases the producer at his most dubbed out. With billowing pads threatening to push the song through the roof and wild glitches running rampant through the mix, it flirts with the classic Warp sound of the mid-90s; however, devastatingly deep drum patterns and loping dub bass keep the track firmly planted in the present while keeping a keen eye on the past.

And just as a little treat for all you boys and girls out there, we're throwing up a download of Stott's re-versioning of labelmate Claro Intelecto's killer "Peace Of Mind" single, along with the original steez. Peep how Stott takes a straight up propulsive electro track and smooths it into an achingly beautiful slice of ambient piano and weeping strings. Wrap yourself up in it to keep warm. Oof!
