"Focused Distraction"

I just got my hands on this, and it's a stone cold killer! One of the smoothest, coolest, most madly blunted DJ mixtapes I've ever heard...it's pretty well essential. Hailing from Japan, DJ Mistu The Beats has devoted this entire 80 minute mix to the angelic sounds of the Fender Rhodes piano. Featuring 28 choice cuts and funky grooves rooted in that wonderfully lounged-out 70's style that we all know and love, "28 Roses" is some serious business. Slowly seeping into your headspace on a cloud of ultra-laidback keys, Mitsu cuts a path through vintage soul and jazz from the likes of Alan Hawkshaw, Gene Ammons, and James Moody, tweaking the funk level ever-so-slowly over the mix's duration. No joke, this is how you should spend every morning. While you're at it, just build a whole lifestyle around this monster...you could do worse. Now, where's my mimosa?

FYI, it's a rather large file...so it might take a little while to download. Cop it here.

Since this seems to be mega-mix Monday, you should probably head over to Microcosm Records and cop Ezekiel Honig's December, 2005 set at Percussion Lab (it's in the media section, if you couldn't figure that one out on your own). Clocking in at a healthy 45 minutes, this is just the sort of minimal magic that makes these horrific January days bearable...cozy.
